With the endorsement of third term in the proposed constitution amendment, Senate President Ken Nnamani is under immense pressure to ensure that the National Assembly ratifies the Senator Ibrahim Mantu Committee's recommendation.
Daily Sun gathered that since last week when the National Assembly Joint Committee on Constitution Review, led by Senator Mantu, concluded its work in Rivers State, the Senate President had been under pressure to ensure that lawmakers in support of third term carry the day when debate on the issue is held.
This is even as the newly registered Advcanced Congress of Democrats (ACD) has appealed to senators and mmembers of the House of Representatives to kill the third term project.
Speaking on perceived fears that the seanate leadership may succumb to pressure, and gag anti-third term lawmakers during the debate, Senator Abu Ibrahim (ANPP, Katsina) said 'every Senator should be allowed to stand up and be counted.
This issue is a very serious one. I met with the 11 councils in my senatorial district and they don't want third term. I have to be seen doing their bidding."
