The people of Oye Local Government of Ekiti State have drummed up support for Governor Peter Ayodele Fayose, urging him to re-contest in 2007.
The people in a solidarity rally in Ado-Ekiti condemned the alleged N25 billion loot levied against the governor.
Executive Chairman of the council, Hon Omobamitale Oguntoyinbo and other notable traditional rulers led the people in the solidarity rally round the major streets in the state capital before proceeding to the governor's office to express their support for the government.
Oguntoyinbo speaking at the rally, however, called on the governor, on behalf of the people of Oye Local Government to contest the governorship of the state comes next year. He condemned in strong terms the alleged N25 billion loot publication.
According to a release signed by Biodun Esan, the council spokesman and made available to Daily Sun, Oguntoyinbo wondered how the governor could have looted N25 billion belonging to Ekiti State when in actual fact all the state had received from the Federation Account as allocation was not up to N24 billion since he assumed office in 2003.
''The entire people of Ekiti State are quite impressed by what the governor is doing. We are not complaining because what Fayose is doing is there for everybody to see, there is development going on everywhere," the LG boss said.
He appealed to the governor to continue to paddle the canoe of the state and urged him not to listen to any orchestrated and unsubstantiated lies against him.
The governor while addressing the crowd thanked them for their support and appealed to them to always support his government for them to continue to enjoy dividends of democracy.
