A woman in Oyo State has suffered a cruel fate in the hands of a police officer, whose car crushed her three children and killed one of them, as they were going to school.
A woman in Oyo State has suffered a cruel fate in the hands of a police officer, whose car crushed her three children and killed one of them, as they were going to school. The ill-fated kids are Elizabeth, Agnes and Blessing Uyang.
Eye witnesses at the accident scene said the unidentified officer lost control of his car at the Eleyele area of Ibadan and ran into the kids at about 8am, outside the Anwal Islam Secondary School, Eleyele, Ibadan. Elizabeth was a J.S.S 1 student at the school.
Blessing and Agnes Uyang landed in hospital with injuries, but Elizabeth died on the spot.
The grieving mother, Regina Uyang, told Daily Sun: ' I was at home when they came to tell me that a car had crushed my children. I fainted on the spot. I used to take them to school myself, but on that day, I asked the eldest (Blessing) to take her sisters to school".
Mrs. Uyang identified the man who killed her child as a police officer, who she believes is being shielded by the authorities at Eleyele Police station after he was rescued from the mob that had wanted to lynch him. The officer allegedly attempted to run away before he was caught.
Mrs. Uyang said she had been left to clear the hospital bills incurred by Blessing and Agnes who are still in critical conditions.
'We are a poor family. We want to see justice done," Mrs. Uyang said, adding, 'My child died and we can identify who killed her. I am calling on the Inspector General of Police to wade into this matter".
The slain child was buried on February 18, at Sango Cemetery in Ibadan.
While expressing sympathies on behalf of the police, the state police spokesman, Mr. Femi Adedeji, said the matter was being investigated.
