An unidentified armed robber was gunned down at the weekend by alerting anti-crime police patrol team along Ogui Road Enugu.

The incident happened when a four man armed robbery gang tried to make away with their loot from a phone dome in Enugu.

According to one of the sales girls at the GSM phone shop, Miss Amarachi Uche, the robbers came calling at their shop, see Charles Ventures Ltd at 91 Ogui Road Enugu at about noon that fateful day.
She told Daily Sun that as they settled down for the day's. business, a young man entered their shop and asked after their manager.

He was told the man was not around and he left.
Immediately, three other men came in while the one that came in earlier was downstairs. One of the three that came in stood outside the door and we were all asked to lie face down."
Continuing, Amarachi who said they were five sales girls on duty added that the robbers beat them up indiscriminately, asking for the key to the safe.
'They went to our drawers and collected money. They also pounced on our customers beating everybody up", she said.
Amarachi, who was obviously shaken, said that the robbers also collected GSM handsets meant for sale and those of their customers.

However, as the robbers made to escape, the sales girls raised an alarm which attracted an anti-crime police patrol team who gave the robbers a hot charse.
In the fierce exchange of fire that ensued, one of the robbers was gunned down, while the three others abandoned their Audi car, apparently stolen and escaped.
A mobile policemen was wounded as he was shot in the chest by the robbers. He is presently receiving treatment in an hospital in Enugu.

Confirming the incident, the Commissioner of Police in-charge of Ogui Police Station, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Mr Francis Eroh along with customers being attended to were robbed of their money and handsets. He said that his men recovered the loot as the robbers succumbed to the superior power.
"Three of them escaped while one was shot dead. Equally, one of my men was shot in the chest and he is receiving treatment in a nearby hospital," ACP Eroh told Daily Sun.
