FG appoints new postmaster-general


After four months of intensive search for a capable hand to replace the late Postmaster General of Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), Mallam Musa Argungu, who was involved in the ill-fated Bellview plane crash, the Federal Government has finally settled for Mallam Ibrahim Mori Baba as the acting postmaster general of the federation.

After four months of intensive search for a capable hand to replace the late Postmaster General of Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), Mallam Musa Argungu, who was involved in the ill-fated Bellview plane crash, the Federal Government has finally settled for Mallam Ibrahim Mori Baba as the acting postmaster general of the federation.

Although the appointment takes effect from Monday, February 20, 2006, Baba will have to wait for another six months before he will be confirmed.

According to a statement by the Public Relations Manager, Mr Taiye Olaniyi, the Minister of Communications, Chief Cornelius Adebayo said that the government took into consideration the imperative of preserving the legacy of hardwork, transparent and result-oriented management left behind by the immediate past postmaster general of the federation and Baba's track record shows that he could sustain the tempo.

Born in December 1952, Baba hails from Mahuta in Fakai Local Government Area of Kebbi State. After his bachelor's degree in Business Education from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, he also obtained a Master's degree in Business Education from the University of Pittsburgh, United States of America in 1984.

A member of Nigerian Institute of Management(NIM), Nigerian Institue of Industrial Management(NIIM) and fellow of two bodies which include Institute of Management Consultants, and Institute of Corporate Administration.


Prior to his appointment, the PMG was the deputy postmater general in Charge of Finance and Investment.

He joined NIPOST in 1993 as a senior assistant Postmaster General having resigned his appointment as director/chief lecturer at the Sokoto State College of Aministration. He later went on secondment in 1995 to Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi as rector, a position he held until his appointment.
