The screening, according to the special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftancy Matter/Town Unions, Dr. Pete Ogbuka, is to separate the "wheat from the chaff" and to ensure that the embarrassments the conflicts have caused the state is put to a stop.
There have been lots of reports that some traditional rulers in the state are parading fake certificates that were not signed by the relevant authorities claiming ownership of their various communities stools.
State Police Commissioner of Police, Mr. Felix Ogbaudu had a forthnight ago complained of the issue of two persons laying claim to the traditional stool of a community, adding that his command had a rough time during the last Christmas following cases off traditional rulers' tussle.
Ogbaudu disclosed that some of those parading as traditional rulers have no certificate, while some parade certificate that were not signed.
In a chat with newsmen, Ogbuka said the development has created serious crisis in communities where such problems exist, adding that it has also put the Town Unions and government on war part with the monarchs.
Noting that the Governor Chris Ngige administration inherited many communal crises, as many of the 177 Communities in the state had one from of conflict or the other, but said that government had achieved some level of success, in setting the crises in the communites.
Ogbuka who would want to see a sanitised traditional institution in Igboland, noted that the governor has made a law that any traditional ruler wishing to give chieftancy title to anyone must have the person to ensure that he or she deserves the honour.
He assured that the government would soon reconstitute the state Traditional Rulers Council.
