Members of the South -South Elements Progressive Union (SSEPU) yesterday defended Governor Peter Odili's endorsement of President Olusegun Obasanjo alleged third term in office and enjoined other state governors to support the Rivers State governor.
Members of the South -South Elements Progressive Union (SSEPU) yesterday defended Governor Peter Odili's endorsement of President Olusegun Obasanjo alleged third term in office and enjoined other state governors to support the Rivers State governor.
Reacting to criticisms, especially the South-South Peoples Assembly (SSPA) response to Dr. Odili SSEPU expressed the believed that Nigeria would have a very stable polity without rancour, speedy development and impeachment free atmosphere if other state governors support the bid.
In a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Mr. Joe Ambakederimo after a meeting in Warri, Delta State, the body said it saw nothing wrong if the constitution is amended to accommodate a third term for Chief Obasanjo to continue in office.
"We commend Dr. Odili for his vision and willingness to prevail on Mr. President to contest the 2007 election. At this period, we should support Chief Obasanjo so that he will not de distracted from the onerous task of nation building and to successfully conclude the reforms programme of his government," said the two-page statement.
