DPO kills Masari's nephew over bag of beans


The kiths and kin of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, who had never seen anybody killed with fire-arm in real life suffered severe shock a day before Sallah when a police officer shot dead a cousin of the speaker.

The promising young man, Shehu Hayatu, father of a five-month-old baby girl, was on his way to answer the call of the village Head of Masari, Alhaji Ishyaku Suleiman, over the theft of a half bag of beans worth N21,000 when the tragedy struck pen-ultimate Wednesday morning.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Kafur Local Government Area in Katsina State, Mohammed Hashimu Gabasawa, Deputy Superintendent of Police, allegedly killed him with a single shot from his gun.

Eye witness told Saturday Sun that when Shehu, causal staff of NEPA out post in Masari, staggered and dropped dead in the pool of his blood, the DPO threw his remains into the boot of his private car and zoomed off.
A number of the stunned villagers who spoke with the Saturday Sun claimed that the killer DPO took the blood-soaked corpse to Kafur Police Station, about 200 metres from Masari village, and tagged it an armed robbery suspect.

According to the first son of the village Head of Masari, Alhaji Sani Ishyaku, the ill-fated son of the sister of Hon. Aminu Bello Masari and the village (Alhaji Ishyaku Suleiman Masari) was purportedly summoned by the Madaki Masari after a teenager living in Shehu's house admitted that he (the boy) removed the affected beans.
The DPO allegedly whisked the teenager away in his car and drove at top speed to Shehu's house.
It was also gathered that Shehu ran back into his house when the car of the dreaded DPO came to an abrupt stop beside him.

Investigations revealed that the police chief ordered his aide, simply identifies as Mathew to fetch Shehu whom he silenced permanently in full glare on the public around 7:45 am.
According to sources, the village Head of Masari who summoned Shehu and the police was still awaiting Shehu ‘s arrival when some of those who witnessed his cold blooded murder brought him the report.
Saturday Sun also learnt that the fear of the DPO now believed to be behind bars in the state police command headquarters, Katsina, is the beginning of wisdom in the area.

The embattled police officer, sources alleged, boasted before the penultimate Wednesday tragedy that he killed three suspects in his former station and no fewer than 18 suspects in his career.
When contacted, the acting Commissioner of Police in Katsina, Mr. C. Asadu, said investigation was underway.
