From boobs job, Dupe Ozolua now gives hope to less privileged

She wrenched sufficient fame and popularity as a boobs enhancer. Famous for resuscitating collapsed and expiring breasts, she restored both age and good looks to ladies whose social and market values were far spent.

She wrenched sufficient fame and popularity as a boobs enhancer. Famous for resuscitating collapsed and expiring breasts, she restored both age and good looks to ladies whose social and market values were far spent. The quiet, but magical hand was Modupe Ozolua. She became an instant appeal and she was most sought after. She was later to aquire the sobriquet ‘Boobs' Lady' in the celebrity circles.

While her initiative struck a blow for ladies with degenerating body components, Dupe has since metamorphosised from ‘Boobs' Lady' to ‘Angel of Mercy'. She now focuses on catering to less-privileged children with deformities.

Her organisation, the Body Enhancement Annual Reconstructive Surgery foundation (BEARS), was the first non governmental organisation in Nigeria dedicated to using plastic surgery and other specialities in medicine to treat and correct deformities in less-privileged Africans.

The objective of BEARS, Dupe said, include giving hope and healing to the underprivileged, educate the public on the causes and prevention of both congenital and developmental deformities and create awareness on HIV/AIDS.

Tagged: 'Bringing Hope to Nigerian Children Suffering From Birth Defects, Through Plastic Surgery", BEARS, which started operation in 2003, is aimed at bringing joy to children born with congenital deformities such as Cleft Lip, Cleft Palate and Syndactyly (Webbed fingers). Over 15 Nigerian children between aged three months and 15 years have benefited from the surgeries.
In 2004, BEARS brought hope to 36 kerosene victims in Edo State. The organisation, in March, invited experienced surgeons from Beverly Hills, Carlifornia, USA to perform plastic surgery on the 36 of the victims.

This gesture was to be later applauded by no less a person than the Most Reverend Desmond Tutu of South Africa.

In one of his letters to BEARS, the former South African Truth Commision chairman, spoke glowingly of Modupe for her concern to the less privileged.

For this year's project tagged 'BEARS Foundation's 2006 Free National Medical Mission In Nigeria", Dupe hopes to give free medical treatment to more than 5000 underprivileged Nigerians. Medical teams will include Plastic Surgeons, General Surgeons, Urologists, Cardiologist, Pediatricians, OB/GYN Doctors, Trauma/ Emergency Doctors, Ophthalmologists, Anesthesiologist, Anesthesiologists Technicians, Operating room nurses, General nurses, Laboratory technicians and Medical Administrators. To facilitate the exercise, BEARS has zoned the country into north and south, each with comprehensive medical teams.

Each zoned team will attend to cases peculiar to the two zones. The north-based team is expected to handle cases like Vesicle Vaginal Fistula (VVF), Cleft Lip, Cleft Palate, Congenital/ birth deformities, Hernia, Tumors etc.

The southern-based team will treat cases like Congenital/birth deformities, Cleft lip, Cleft Palate, Fibroids, Hernias, HIV/AIDS etc. The medical teams are expected to commence work in October. A breakdown of their activities will see the northern team treat 504 VVF patients, 280 plastic surgery patients, 1,680 cataract patients, 280 general surgery patients.

Rev. Tutu, in his letter urged: 'As a patron of the BEARS Foundation I urge you to volunteer and participate in this wonderful endeavour."
