The fate of the former Bayelsa State governor, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, is now hanging in the balance as none of his family members is willing to endorse the surgical operation to remove blood which accumulated in his abdomen.
The development stalled the proposed surgical operation slated for Tuesday, a situation which has created anxiety among his lawyers and kinsmen.
Daily Sun, however, learnt from a reliable source that the embattled former governor, facing charges of money laundering before the Federal High Court, Lagos, had, at about 1.00 pm Tuesday signed the 'consent form" for the operation to be performed without any delay.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in whose custody Alamieyeseigha has been since his arraignment, was said to have insisted that his family members must countersign the 'consent" form, in the presence of his lawyers.
A competent source at a specialist hospital, located on Victoria Island told Daily Sun that the impending surgery was to drain the accumulated blood in the former governor's stomach, explaining that his earlier tummy tuck operation in Germany before his arrest and detention in Britain has been badly managed due to his incarceration in Nigeria.
Chief Alamieyeseigha and seven companies are being tried before Justice Mohammed Shuaib of the Federal High Court, Lagos on charges of money laundering.
Chief Alamieyeseigha was alleged, among others, to have used over N1.5 billion to buy Chelsea Hotel in Abuja.
The former governor, Solomon and Peters Limited, Santolina Investment Corporation, Pesol Nigeria Limited, Kpedefa Nigeria Limited, were also alleged to have converted 241 million pounds (N60.7 billion) from Lagos to London to buy a property at FLT 202 Jubilee Heights Shoot Uphill, London.
