My Support for Obasanjo Not Because of EFCC -Nnamani

Enugu State government has refuted speculations that Governor Chimaroke Nnamani may have decided to join those drumming support for President Olusegun Obasanjo's alleged third term bid to ward off the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from investigating his government.

Enugu State government has refuted speculations that Governor Chimaroke Nnamani may have decided to join those drumming support for President Olusegun Obasanjo's alleged third term bid to ward off the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from investigating his government.

A statement by the Special Adviser (media) to the governor, Mr. Festus Adedayo, said Nnamani's unqualified support for the President has dated back to about eight years now, adding that the governor 'has never shied away from expressing his personal admiration for President Obasanjo's leadership of the country, no matter whose ox was gored in the process".

The statement added, "Right from that day in 1998 when the President landed at the Enugu Airport, to the warm embrace of Dr. Nnamani and Chief JSPC Nwokolo, an age-long friend of the President, the relationship between the President and Governor Nnamani has always been that of a father and son.

"Not only did Dr. Nnamani and Chief Nwokolo follow the then presidential aspirant through all the nooks and crannies of the East on campaign tours, the governor ensured Ndigbo's full support for the President in both the 1999 and 2003 elections.

"At private and public fora, even in intellectual situation of the man Obasanjo in the annals of leadership history of the country, Governor Nnamani has always lived up to his billings as a frontline supporter of the President.

"We are thus amazed at the incongruent linkage of that age long fervour for the Olusegun Obasanjo mystique, demonstrated in yet another forum of dialogue on the state of the nation, with an EFCC investigation which the Enugu State Government and the governor himself have said they welcome and is in the best interest of the anti-corruption drive of Federal Government".
