Wednesday said among the welfare packages designed for civil servants in the state are introduction of loan schemes, establishment of nurseries in offices as well as provision of welfare buses to assist in lifting workers to and from office.

The Head of Service said the loan scheme is designed to help workers in the state get financial assistance from banks which they (workers) will repay within a period while the loans will help such workers acquire whatever they desire like cars, bikes and houses while the state government acts as a guarantor.
On the establishment of nurseries in offices, Mr. Emezue said it was designed to assist nursing mothers who are practising the baby-friendly nursing method.

According to the Head of Service, while government in the past had tried to stop nursing mothers from coming to the office with babies as such distracts them from work, the trend and turn of events now shows otherwise as the government has found out that nursing mothers concentrate more and work better when they have access to their babies.
The Head of Service also announced that in order to eliminate cases of using lack of vehicles as excuses for coming late to work, the state government decided to provide buses to convey civil servants from various points to offices and back after work.

According to him, while the programmes will begin with two buses which will be increased to four by mid year, the package is designed in such a way that every ministry will have its own welfare bus by the end of the year.
He further noted that the Public Service Reforms Board will soon be inaugurated with the establishment of an academy which will provide monthly lectures to educate civil servants on the benefits of the reforms.
