STRONG indications emerged on Wednesday that the former Bayelsa State Governor, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, had a surgical operation to remove blood clot in his abdomen.
STRONG indications emerged on Wednesday that the former Bayelsa State Governor, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, had a surgical operation to remove blood clot in his abdomen.
A source, who disclosed this to our correspondent, said the surgery was done at a private hospital on Victoria Island, Lagos.
The source, however, declined to name the hospital 'because of security reason", but explained that the blood followed 'complications that arose from the former governor's recent abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) operation in Germany."
He said, 'I can authoritatively tell you that the surgery was successful.
'Besides, the former governor is in good health."
He said that the complications would not have arisen if Alamieyeseigha had had the opportunity to travel out of the country for a post-surgery treatment.
The Metropolitan Police arrested the former governor on charges of money laundering in London on September 15, 2005 shortly after he underwent abdominoplasty.
He was facing trial in the British capital but jumped bail and fled back to Nigeria.
He was later removed by the Bayelsa State House of Assembly and arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
He is currently facing trial in a Federal High Court, Lagos, over a 40-count charge of money laundering, illegal acquisition of properties and false declaration of assets.
