Pastor Faces Trial over Kidnap


Police authorities at the zone two headquarters Onikan, Lagos, have launched a man -hunt for General Overseer of the Christian Praying Assembly (CPA), located at the Ajao Estate area of Lagos, for alleged kidnap of five children of same parents.

Already, the police have slammed a four -count kidnap charge at a Lagos Magistrate Court against the pastor, Reverend Emeka King and his accomplice, Mr Augustine Eze, an elder of the Church.

The Prosecutor, Mr Peter Nwangwu, told the presiding Magistrate, Mrs I .O. Adelaja, that the duo conspired to commit the alleged offence, contrary to and punishable under Section 517 of the Criminal Code Law of Nigeria 1990, as applicable in Lagos State.

The charge partly read; "that you, Augustine Eze and His Holiness Dr. Rev. King now at large, on or before November 17, 2005 at 4th Avenue, C Close, Plot 1589 Festac Town, within the Lagos Magisterial District, did kidnap Chidimma ( 9 years), Chukwunwike ( 7 years), Emeka ( 4 years ), Chukwudi ( 6 years ) and Joy , a year and two months old, to unknown place and deprived their father, Mr Edwin Akubue the right/access to them and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 364 (2) of the Criminal Code Laws of the federation of Nigeria 1990."

The charge also indicated that the accused persons did the act "with intent to intimidate and threaten the life of Akabue, ( father of the children ), an act which is punishable under Section 86 of the Criminal Code laws.
After the charge was read out to Augustine, he pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of N200,000 with a surety.

As at presstime, the whereabout of the pastor has remained unknown, but the police have spread its dragnets to the Eastern part of the country, to ensure that he is arrested and brought before the Court at the next adjourned date, March 15.
