Eagles cool on Elephants test

The Super Eagles have said they are happy they will be clashing with the Elephants of Cote d'Ivoire for a place in the final of the African Nations Cup because they expect a more level playing field against the West African rivals than it would be against Cameroon.

The Super Eagles have said they are happy they will be clashing with the Elephants of Cote d'Ivoire for a place in the final of the African Nations Cup because they expect a more level playing field against the West African rivals than it would be against Cameroon.

"At this stage of the competition, the opposition would be tougher and whether it was Cameroon or Cote d'Ivoire that we would meet, we do not expect an easy game," said defender Chidi Odiah.

"We just want to go out there and win because we don't have an option."

"Psychologically, I think we are better off against the Ivorians than Cameroon, who many believe have a jinx over us," added Joseph Enakarhire.

"I want to think that the organisers are likely to extend a few more favours to Cameroon than Cote d'Ivoire because they have a lot of connections up there. See the penalty that was saved by the Ivorian goalkeeper and the referee overruled it. Such a favour can only be given Cameroon."

In the meantime, the Eagles failed to send a spy to watch the Cameroon vs Cote d'Ivoire quarter-final at the Cairo International Stadium.

A scout has been sent to the games involving potential Eagles opponents at this competition but because the game against Tunisia dragged into extra time, no official could make the two-hour trip by road to Cairo in time for the other quarterfinal.
