Sack: Atiku dares PDP

VICE-PRESIDENT Atiku Abubakar yesterday reacted to purported plan by the National Working Committee of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to invite him for trial on account of his alleged anti-party activities, saying he was not bothered by the development.

ABUJA — VICE-PRESIDENT Atiku Abubakar yesterday reacted to purported plan by the National Working Committee of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to invite him for trial on account of his alleged anti-party activities, saying he was not bothered by the development. He dared the disciplinary committee of PDP to go ahead and invite him for trial.

The NWC of the PDP headed by the party’s National Chairman, Dr. Ahmadu Ali, was reported to have directed the party’s disciplinary committee to invite the Vice-President for query on his anti-party activities, which will lead to his suspension and then eventual sack from the party.

The PDP is unimpressed by his utterances, disloyal character to President Obasanjo, as well as his role in the formation and sustenance of the Movement for the Restoration and Defence of Democracy (MRDD).
But speaking through one of his media spokesman, Garba Shehu, Atiku said he was yet to receive any invitation to face the disciplinary committee. He said that he was not upset by the plans as he was sure that there was no evidence against him. “There is no evidence,” referring to alleged anti-party roles. “They can’t do anything. So we are not upset by it,” Garba said.

Sources within Atiku’s camp revealed yesterday that the think-thank of the Vice-President went into a protracted meeting yesterday, understudying the situation and mapping out a strategy on getting the Vice-President off the hook to nail him by his perceived enemies in the PDP.

“All is calm but we are aware of their plans since November 2005 to suspend him from the PDP,” another source who pleaded anonymity told Vanguard yesterday, insisting that Atiku has done more than those clamouring for his removal in the building PDP and in promoting the ideals of the party. “So, it’s funny,” he said.

But when contacted, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. John Odeh said he was not aware of any plan by the party to deal with the Vice-President. “It is strange to all of us. Why overheating the system? Everybody is surprised. I don’t know where it is coming from,” he said.
