'We are committed to raising an army of reformers, and according to George Washington, discipline is the soul of an army, making small number formidable procure success to the weak and esteem to all. We vow to maintain discipline as our watchword". He assured all the matriculating students and indeed all students of Covenant University and the beloved parents that, 'we are in a covenant with you regarding this end".
In his address captioned 'Living the Covenant University Dream - Our Leadership Development Mandate", the Chancellor quoted the words of Thomas Jefferson, 'every generation requires a new revolution" and declared that the vision of covenant university as an institution was born out of passion for change. That is why we have always claimed that Covenant University is not just an institution of higher learning but indeed a revolution in education. This has been our stance before the establishment of this great institution".
According to him, sound education is the sure foundation of every great nation. Not just education this time, but ti right kind of education. He referred to J.F. Kennedy who said, 'A child mis-educated is a child lost". He added 'Our mission is to empower students towards national reconstruction, reconciliation, socio-economic development and restoration of human dignity resulting in transformation of our society".
In her own speech, the vice-chancellor, Professor Aize Obayan, said this particular matriculation ceremony stands out uniquely in the history of Covenant University as it is the very first matriculation ceremony to hold in the same year when the University, 'will be sending our first set of graduands". It is therefore in many ways an affirmation of Our coming of age".
