In the frontline of the crusade to rid the nation of spurious regulated products, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has publicly destroyed fake, substandard, expired and unwholesome regulated products worth N302, 296, 339.00 in Shagamu, Ogun State.
Speaking to Journalists immediately after the destruction exercise, Director (Enforcement), NAFDAC, Pharm. Dioka Ejionueme explained that the products destroyed were made up of fake and substandard pharmaceutical products confiscated from importers, pharmacy outlets and hospitals in Lagos, as well as from street drug hawkers in Lagos.
He also said the destroyed products included seized expired and unwholesome food products, fake pharmaceutical products retrieved from Onitsha Bridge-head Market, deteriorated and expired pharmaceutical and food products voluntarily handed over by various companies in line with regulatory guidelines.
Ejionueme therefore called on Nigerians to source their drug products from registered premises and also look out for manufacturing and expiry dates, full location of manufacturers, batch numbers and NAFDAC registration numbers.
He promised hard times for violators and defaulters of the Agency's regulations, while warning them that NAFDAC would leave no stone unturned to checkmate their activities.
