Fair play award winner in Friday's Egypt 2006 Nations Cup match between Nigeria and Zimbabwe, John Mikel Obi, was full of gratitude to Nigerians, his coaches, and fans for the support and opportunity they gave him to play for the country.
Obi, who could not hide his excitement over the goal he scored in his first match of the competition, said he would live to treasure the goal, which he revealed had lifted a lot of weight off his shoulders.
''I am very happy that the coach gave me the opportunity to play in this match. I also want to thank my team mates for their efforts in the game, and I think that if we continued like this we will all realise our dream in this competition.
''I must also compliment the Zimbabweans for the fighting spirit the exhibited throughout the match. It shows that with time they will become a formidable side.''
