This is one of the measures taken by the ministry to put paid to any distraction that may arise on account of any outstanding benefits.
A source close to the team told The Guardian yesterday that all the players expressed joy when the ministry official gave the money to them.
According to the source, what the ministry expected from the team is more than mere participation.
"I can confidently tell you that the sports ministry is not owing both the players and their officials any allowance.
The ministry have paid off all the allowances and outstanding of the players. The players could not hide their joy when they got the money. With the paying of the allowance, it shows that the ministry is totally in support of the team. The ministry want the team to succeed at the competition, " he said.
He also hinted that one of the teams coaches has charged the players to reciprocates the kind gesture given to them by the ministry and make the nation proud at the championship.
"After receiving the money, one of the coaches told the players that they do not have any excuse not to perform well at the tournament.
Our team is prepared for the tourney and I want you to know that they are in high spirit, they are ready for the competition. In fact, with what happened in the team's camp before leaving for Cairo, the trophy is coming to Nigeria," he assured.
