EFCC arrests Benue firm's chief


Pandemonium broke loose in Makurdi on Thursday when officials of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) chased and arrested the Managing Director of Benue Investment and Property Company Limited (BIPCL) Mr. John Tine.He was arrested in connection with alleged corrupt practices.

Pandemonium broke loose in Makurdi on Thursday when officials of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) chased and arrested the Managing Director of Benue Investment and Property Company Limited (BIPCL) Mr. John Tine.He was arrested in connection with alleged corrupt practices.

The EFCC operatives who drove in Peugeot 504 with registration number DW837Ab followed Mr. Tine after he left office, but the BIPCL chief refused to stop. The BIPCL chief ordered his driver to keep moving until his car was overtaken by the EFCC operatives at the Iyorchia Ayu road. On reaching the road when the EFCC operatives over-took him the BIPCL managing director diverted to the Fidelis Makka Library Road where they shot the tyre of his Skoda saloon car to demobilise him. He was thereafter forced out of the car. The shooting caused panic among residents who scampered for safety thinking that the plain-clothes EFCC operatives were armed robbers. After replacing the damaged tyre the EFCC operatives whisked Tine away in their official car to the Benue State police command. He was questioned at the state police command. The EFCC operatives refused Tine speaking with reporters that Mr. John Alepereshi, Publisher Nwsmatle magazine had petitioned the EFCC, alleging that the (EFCC storms Benue).

Tine had mismanaged government resources totally over N1 billion, the fund was loan received from banks to finance the construction of Hensing Estate for Benue workers.

The magazine publisher in the petition also urged the EFCC to investigate and prosecute the Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mr. Laha Dzever for allegedly diverting funds meant for primary education.
