In a blood-chilling and heart rending account, a kaduna-based school proprietor, Mr Peter Adeola, has revealed how his wife allegedly rendered him sterile, during their 16 years of marriage.
Adeola who got married to Linda (real name withheld) in 1986, at aged 27, told Sunday Sun that he had hoped to be a proud father, one year after his wedding to Linda, but contrary to his high expectation, this was not to be.
Disclosing his ordeal at the hands of his wife, at the recent convention of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Ogun State, Adeola said his nightmare began when his quest for the fruit of the womb was not forthcoming.
Said he: "I got married to my first wife for eighteen years without a child. During this period, I was under intense pressure from my family to either divorce her or look elsewhere for an alternative to resolve the issue of childlessness plauging me."
Continuing, Adeola said: "I refused all their suggestions and and chose rather to remain focused on God."
After several years of endless and frustrated waiting, the proprietor of Ideal Group of Schools, Funtua, Kaduna State, said he had to seek medical help.
"We found ourselves faced with several medical tests. As one doctor failed us, we turned to another. In the course of all this, we spent fortunes in a bid to have a child."
Wife as agent of darkness
After several diagnosis, Adeola told Sunday Sun, came the shock of his life: "There was this day that one of the doctors asked me to bring a sample of my semen. While taking the semen to the doctor, my wife asked me to stay back at home while she took it to the doctor. Along the line, she took the sample to a native doctor. This finally sealed my fate and hope of having a child. This was about two years into our marriage. I got to know of this later through revelation. After the doctor examined the little quantity she brought the hospital, his verdict was that there was nothing wrong with me."
As times went on, Deola said he soon became the object of ridicule from neighbours who accused him of being responsible for his sterility: "At Funtua, where I lived and owned a thriving school, the natives and some of my staff believed that I used my semen for wealth. They said this even to my face. According to them, I could not have the best of two worlds. It was either I had the wealth or children and not both."
America visa lottery
"I entered into and won the America visa lottery in 2000. Consequently, I travelled to US with my wife. After one year, I told my wife that I could not continue to allow the business (school) I left at home suffer. I told her we needed to go back to Nigeria and continue running the school. She rejected the idea. Thus in 2001, I left her in the States and came back home. Early in 2002, my wife sent divorce papers to me through the mail. She later "While in the United States, my wife made efforts to have my reproductive organ for examined. This led to doctors advising that I should submit myself to surgery to effect possible correction that might help my situation.
Two days to the operation, my younger sister called me from Nigeria and informed me that I should not go for any medical surgery, no matter what the case was. How she got to know that I would be going for the operation baffled me. Guided by my firm believe in God, when I got back to Nigeria, I discovered that the advice for surgery was induced by the powers of darkness and would have put paid to my inability to reproduce forever."
Under a spell
"With divorce settled, my life became settled as well, as peace of God entered my life as never before. Before the divorce, anytime I heard the voice of my wife at home or in the school, fear would grip me. It got to a point that I was almost like her slave. She put me under her spell. However, the day she served me the divorce papers, the fear ceased. I became free.
With this peace in and around me, I got married to another lady in 2003. I was then forty-five years old."
Pregnancy
"By February of 2005, I discovered that my wife was pregnant. The truth eventually emerged when on October 19th, 2005, my wife was delivered of a baby boy."
