Christmas Day 2005 dawned on a sour note for the family of Edema in Delta State, as their breadwinner, Mr. Sunday Jackson Edema, was brutally murdered by suspected assassins.
Following his tragic death, the police in the State have reportedly swung into action to find the killers of the Chairman of Orere Community Development Centre.
The police declined at the weekend to reveal the strategies being adopted to apprehend Edema's killers.
However, Sunday Sun learnt that already, homicide detectives are exploring a few probabilities to help them nab the culprits.
One, according to an inside source, is the theory of not putting anything past his business associates and political opponents. Another, the unofficial source claimed, is his alleged pattern of socialization, especially with the opposite sex.
How he was murdered
Edema, 38, hails from Deghele in Gbokoda community, Warri South West Local Council of Delta State. Three gunmen allegedly assassinated him at about 2am on Christmas day.
A family member told Sunday Sun that Jackson got a call earlier that his wife's car was impounded along Warri/Sapele Road:
'He went and got the car released. Back to his residence at about 2am, he stopped at the entrance and waited for the gate to be opened. As he was waiting, three gunmen emerged from nowhere on both sides of the car and shot him at close range and escaped.
An eyewitness, according to a family source, said that the three men hurried into a waiting car and sped off after the sound of gunshots were heard.
Will to stay alive
Described as a strong man, Jackson, as soon as he was shot, reportedly reversed his car and drove to Quick Response Mobile Police base in the neighbourhood. It was there that his neighbours later traced him to, before he was rushed to a private hospital where he died few hours later.
