Re: Access Bank, state varsities and poly graduates

The allegation that some organisations discriminate against graduates of state universities and polytechnics is not entirely new; rather, the new dimension to this phenomenon is the outright refusal of firms to employ graduates of polytechnics and state universities.

The allegation that some organisations discriminate against graduates of state universities and polytechnics is not entirely new; rather, the new dimension to this phenomenon is the outright refusal of firms to employ graduates of polytechnics and state universities.

The employers of labour came up with this obnoxious and senseless policy because we have a government that has no concrete employment plans for the youth.

It is an evidence of failure on the part of the government in its regulatory responsibility.

One wonders if the graduates of state-owned institutions and polytechnics have regularly fallen short of expectation at job interviews, or, after employment, in their performances.

Even in a situation where some have failed, it is rather wrong to lump everybody together.

While one realises that privately-owned businesses have a right to employ candidates who they think meet their standards, it is not true that only graduates of federal universities are employable.

Now that Access Bank is at the forefront of poly/state varsity graduate's rejection, I call on the authorities of polytechnics and state universities all over the federation, as well as their students and graduates, to withdraw their accounts with the bank and all others that overtly display such arrogance.

Secondly, those of them that have their branches in the campuses of polytechnics and state universities should be sent packing summarily.

Or what sense does it make for one to do business with organisations that are only out to get what they can out of people, without attempting to give something in return?

Nigeria has not reached a situation whereby some institutions will show unrelenting preference for graduates of particular institutions of higher learning.
