Professor Kimse Okoko has been returned as President of the Ijaw National Congress.
He was returned unopposed, according to information filtering out of Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.
Up till late yesterday night, votes were being collated at the Sports Complex where voting took place.
Most of the early hours of yesterday, delegates went through the process of accreditation.
By last week, it had become crystal clear none of the candidates, especially those from the Eastern Zone could stand up to Okoko's campaign. Many in the Ijaw nation believe Governor Diepreye Alamieyeseigha was behind Okoko.
Alamieyeseigha like Okoko is from the central zone and in the run off to the election, prime candidates from the Eastern zone had been branded 'sell-outs", a euphemism suggesting they could be under the control of the Rivers governor, a non-Ijaw.
Thus far, we do not have a comprehensive list of those who won, but we have it on solid authority that at least seven other persons may have been returned unopposed as well. The Telegraph, which has been following the story would bring its readers full details Saturday. Keep a date with us.
