Tension in Ibadan over plans to abduct CJ

Tension rose again weekend in Ibadan, Oyo State, over alleged plans by some people to abduct the acting Chief Judge of the state, Justice Afolabi Adeniran, to force him to raise panel of inquiry that would look into the allegation of gross misconduct leveled against the state governor, Senator Rasidi Ladoja.

Last Thursday, after the pandemonium that greeted the sitting of some lawmakers, who were at the vanguard of the impeachment saga against the governor, the CJ had been called upon to raise a seven-man panel to investigate the allegations, at a press briefing held at D'Rovans Hotel and addressed by Hon. Babatunde Eesuola.

But the CJ, during a Radio Nigeria programme monitored in Ibadan had said that he was aware of a court injunction over the matter asking the status quo to be maintained pending the determination of a suit brought against the lawmakers at the forefront of the impeachment saga.

Justice Adeniran equally stated that the judiciary would look into the impeachment process and all the allegations dispassionately as members of the arm of government were not politicians.
But since Saturday, the rumour mill has been awash with news of a plan to abduct the CJ and force him to act by raising the panel of enquiry.
All efforts made to reach out to the CJ to hear from him, however, proved abortive. But an aide of Chief Lamidi Adedibu.

However, Deputy Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Mr. Jonathan Johnson, said nobody has come to report to him about such plan and neither was he aware of it.
"I didn't hear from the CJ. I didn't hear from the government too about such plan. The policemen that are attached to the CJ have not told me anything. I did not hear from the SSS people that are with him (CJ). So, I have not heard any such thing," the DCP said.
