IBADAN — THE Oyo State Government, claimed yesterday it had uncovered plot by a faction of law-makers in the state House of Assembly who are loyal to the veteran politician, Chief Lamidi Adedibu and a prominent traditional ruler in the state to impeach Governor Rashidi Ladoja and replace him with his Deputy, Otunba Adebayo Alao Akala.
Akala, according to government is to work with another Ibadan politician as his deputy.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Strategy and Media Matters, Mr. Ade Adekanmbi who made the claims said “the master-plan of the law-makers is to allow the incumbent Deputy Governor to govern the state for only six months before sending him out of office so that their real candidate can then become the governor.
“We know their game; they have plans to bring in a prominent politician who had failed to win gubernatorial elections so many times as governor. They want to first remove the incumbent governor and then install his deputy only for them to remove the deputy after six months and allow the politician who would have been picked as the deputy to become the governor. It is saddening that they are doing this with active support of a prominent traditional ruler.”
Mr. Adekanmbi said the 15 assemblymen who purportedly initiated impeachment proceedings against the governor are out to blackmail the government to rescind his planned decision to probe all the contractors that failed to deliver the desks and chairs contracts awarded to them.”
He said that the action of the lawmakers was to resort into sheer blackmail, adding “they were aware that the government has already compiled the names of those contractors who are yet to deliver the desks and chairs given to them with the aim of taking action. That was why they are trying to create crises and confusion in the state so that the government would not have a rest of mind.
These desks and chairs were awarded to them to aid the education of the common man but they failed to deliver and want to cover up their track.”
The media adviser said law-makers’ hands were not clean, and wanted to incite the public against the governor as a result of his refusal to allow them access to public fund.
He explained that “they wanted to be feeding fat on public funds which Ladoja who is highly prudent won’t condone because he has responsibility to the people.”
Meanwhile, Adekanmbi still maintained the earlier claim of Governor Ladoja that he had not been served with any impeachment notice and picked hole in the entire impeachment brouhaha saying, “in actual fact there had been a disclaimer personally signed by the Speaker."
"Again you are aware that the whole House has not met since September 1st 2005, where did they meet to come out with the letter dated December 9th? That is to show the dubious intention of these people."
““Everybody is aware that since inception of the administration we have pursued free education in the state with commendation from both the parents and even the students themselves. The president also commended us for our efforts in rebuilding education in the state. That statement was very irresponsible coming from a member of the house of Assembly. At any rate, I am not surprised that he could say so because they are now operating at a place not meant for serious minded people. People now refer to them as pepper-soup joint lawmakers who operate at beer parlours. They have lost touch with realities. Let any of them go out and see if they won’’t be stoned even by the people they claimed to be representing”” he retorted.
