The Police have arrested the chairman of Southern Ijaw Local Government Council of Bayelsa State; Mr. Steve Diver for alleged illegal possession of fire.
The Police have arrested the chairman of Southern Ijaw Local Government Council of Bayelsa State; Mr. Steve Diver for alleged illegal possession of fire.
Luck ran against Diver when Police on stop -and -search arrested one man with fire arms, who subsequently confessed that the council boss was the sole financier of their group that are serving as his body guards as well as bouncers to political enemies.
As at the time of filling this report, Diver was still being detained at the Ekeki Police Station in Yenagoa.
Bayelsa State Police Commissioner, Alhaji Hafiz Ringin in a telephone interview with THISDAY confirmed the arrest of Diver, and said the council chairman will be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded by the police.
Meanwhile an eye witness account informed THISDAY that as soon as the male suspect who confessed to having Diver as the sole financier was arrested, that the Police immediately raised a search warrant, and searched the home of the chairman where three automatic raffle AK 47 were recovered .
