Less than 24 hours after the burial of Taofeek Ayinla, a butcher, who was found dead alongside nine members of his family in their new apartment, tragedy struck again as one of the man's mothers-in-law collapsed and gave up the ghost.
Mrs. Sulat Abonde, 70, was said to have died at her Ajeja compound, Oje area of Ibadan city around 12 noon, yesterday.
Popularly called Mama Olofi, the late Abonde, Daily Sun learnt, was the mother of Musili Ayinla, the pregnant wife of the late butcher. Abonde was said to have lost not less than six among the 10 people that died mysteriously inside Ayinla's new apartment located at Oke-Ogbere Alagbaa area of Ona Ara Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Apart from her pregnant daughter, Abonde was also said to have lost two grandchildren, and one unidentified girl who died in the house.
Also lost in the mysterious death was a woman who was the wife to Musili's brother and one other friend who came to celebrate with the Ayinlas.
During a visit to the Ajeja compound of the late Abonde yesterday, it was learnt that the woman had not slept since the sad news of her daughter, the husband and the children was relayed to her.
According to Mrs Sikirat Salawu, Musili's immediate elder sister, since Mama got to know of Musili's death, she had not been sleeping. "Though she never wept, she was equally never herself. This was because she loved the children so much and she had special affection for Musili in particular."
At about 12.20pm when she was about to die, Abonde was said to have excused herself to go to the toilet when she collapsed. She was said not to have taken up to four steps when she fell and died immediately.
At four o' clock, when she was about to be buried, an unidentified man threatened to deal ruthlessly with any photo-journalist that dared to take any picture during the ceremony.
Meanwhile, Yoruba ethnic militia, Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Gani Adams faction, have condemned in strongest terms the gruesome murder of the family of 10 on Sunday.
While calling on anybody with useful information on the incident to come forward, OPC also extended its hands of fellowship to the State Police Command in its drive to keep Oyo State safe from criminals and criminal activities.
"The OPC, as a body concerned with the welfare of the Yoruba people wherever they may be domiciled, is appalled by this senseless and cold-blooded killings which is a negation of the peaceful and law-abiding nature of the people of Oyo State," the statement signed by the duo of Shina Akinpelu and Adeoye Oloyede, publicity secretary and state coordinator respectively, stated.
