In what was a most embarrassing and politically shameful incident, Interior Ministry clerks at Ben-Gurion International Airport on December 6 detained two senior Nigerian diplomats and family members.

(IsraelNN.com) In what was a most embarrassing and politically shameful incident, Interior Ministry clerks at Ben-Gurion International Airport on December 6 detained two senior Nigerian diplomats and family members.

According to the clerks, the travelers did not have the proper papers and therefore, they were not permitted to enter the country and they were being detained for expulsion.

Following the intervention of the Nigerian Embassy in Israel and the Foreign Ministry, the Interior Ministry clerks were called off and the diplomats and their family members were permitted to enter into the country.

It should be pointed out that the travelers did present valid diplomatic passports, but for reasons that remain unclear, the clerks insisted on additional permits which they were unable to present.

Nigerian officials filed a formal protest over the unacceptable behavior of airport employees.
