ABUJA—THE Chaplain of Loyola Jesuit College, Abuja whose students died in the Sosoliso plane crash, Father Ugo Nweke Chaplain J C, yesterday said the college was yet to determine the number of students lost to the crash. The chaplaintold Vanguard the airline was yet to brief the college management on the number of students who actually boarded the ill-fated flight.
“I am saddened by the whole calamity,” he said, adding that "although the parents always make flight arrangements for their children, the college has the responsibility of transporting the students to the airport.
“We cannot be very specific on the number of students affected at the moment because we have not got any official statement from the airline operator up till now.
“Although we were at the airport trying to get who and who, we know that over 50 students were estimated to travel to Port Harcourt. Apart from that, we can’t give the number until we get information from the airline.
“It is difficult to console the parents, but as believers and people of faith, I always believe in sad period, I get consoled in the word of angel to the women who came to mourn the death of Christ in book of Luke 24v 5—6.
“However, every Nigerian who feels devastated by this should immortalise those dead kids. I don’t know why they died but I believe they were not supposed to die. This is the third plane that crashed in about two months. That means something is wrong."
Meanwhile, the school Principal and his deputy have travelled to Port Harcourt with some staff to condole parents who lost their children in the crash.
