Security breach: Court restrains police, SSS over Atiku's ADC

A Federal High Court has ordered the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Bayo Ojo (SAN), the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Sunday Ehindero and the Director-General State Security Service, Lt. Col. Kayode Are, to stay all actions relating to the former Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to Vice President Atiku Abubakar

A Federal High Court has ordered the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Bayo Ojo (SAN), the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Sunday Ehindero and the Director-General State Security Service, Lt. Col. Kayode Are, to stay all actions relating to the former Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Mr. Abdul Yari Lafia, pending the determination of the suit he filed against them.

In the suit, the former ADC to the vice president is challenging his withdrawal as ADC and his subsequent detention without trial.
Justice Babs Kwuewunmi, the trial justice who granted the order, directed that the Director- General of the State Security Services be served through the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation while a direct service of his order be effected on the Inspector-General of Police directly.

The court granted the order after listening to counsel to the plaintiff, Mr. Rickey Tarfa (SAN), who moved the ex-prate application, which was rooted under the provisions of section 46 (1) of the 1999 constitution and order 1 rule 2 (1) (2) and (6) (II) order 1 rule 3 of the Federal high court rules.

However, the court declined to grant an order for the unconditional release or bail sought by the applicant as well as an order that he be produced in court at the next adjourned date.
A Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), Lafia was on Tuesday, November 29, this year arrested on what the police authorities called security breaches and has since been in detention.
