The Federal Government has said that it would soon make public its position on the impeached governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha who is currently in police custody at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Alamieyeseigha was on Friday last week impeached in controversial circumstances and flown to Abuja shortly after his arrest in Yenagoa.
Attorney -General and Minister of Justice, Chief Bayo Ojo (SAN) who made government position on the matter public at a press conference organised by his ministry, also said government is awaiting the decision of the Plateau State House of Assembly for the next step to take on Governor Joshua Dariye.
"We are examining options to take on the former Bayelsa State Governor's issue. Government will in the next few days come up with a position on Alamieyeseigha and it would be made public. On Dariye Federal Government is looking on the decision of the
State House of Assembly for the next step to take."
Dariye, it would be recalled, jumped police bail in London where he was arrested on money laundering offences. Since then, efforts had been on by the Federal Government to impeach him through the State House of Assembly.
Only recently, the security aides to the Plateau State governor were withdrawn for questioning following the alleged attack on some operatives from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), who were in the State on an official assignment.
The Justice Minister also spoke on the recent clamp down on ethnic militia groups in the country by the Federal Government, saying it was not a selective exercise but a demonstration that no individual or group would be allowed to hold the country hostage.
Speaking on his reform programme in the justice ministry, Ojo lamented that the nation's law and legal system was not responding adequately to the challenges of social and economic developments which confront the country on a daily basis.
