The Kwara State Commissioner for Information and Home Affairs, Alhaji Raheem Adedoyin was Monday attacked by armed robbers between Ogbomosho and Ilorin.
The Commissioner, who was returning from an official trip from Lagos was attacked at a point between Gbede in Oyo State and Kwara State by a five-man armed gang who dispossessed him of an unspecified amount of money.
Speaking with the Saturday Sun, the Commissioner said his car was stopped by the gang camouflaged in Customs Service uniform. He said while two of them stayed at a distance providing cover, another two approached his side of the car and demanded for money.
"The one who came to me just said bring money. And out of confusion, I emptied my pockets. He took one of my handsets but was not satisfied with all the money on me. He demanded for the rest and I told him that they were in my briefcase inside the car's boot".
Adedoyin said he was dragged out to the rear of the car where he opened the briefcase and emptied all money and handed over to the bandits.
They were not done yet however, Adedoyin said "the armed robbers pointed gun at him. "I then started shouting Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar!. The thief became mad and said what is the meaning of Allahu Akbar and beckoned on his gang members who were charging at us and at that point, I and my driver dashed into the bush".
The Commissioner on Tuesday in his office was limping while his driver was said to have been hospitalized because of the injuries sustained in the bush.
