A new deputy governor was yesterday named for Ekiti State. She is Chief (Mrs) Abiodun Olujimi, till now a member of the House of Representatives. She will be sworn in today.
A new deputy governor was yesterday named for Ekiti State. She is Chief (Mrs) Abiodun Olujimi, till now a member of the House of Representatives. She will be sworn in today.
Olujimi, a member of the House of Represrentative's representing Ekiti South Federal Constituency would be taking over from Mr Adebisi Omoyeni who has to leave the plum job following his appointment as the Managing Director/Chief Executive of the new WEMA Bank PLC.
Already the state House of Assembly has ratified the appointment of Olujimi who is from Omuo Ekiti in Ekiti, East local government area as the third deputy governor of the state at its yesterday sitting.
The quick announcement of Olujimi, a seasoned broadcaster and one of the close confidants of Governor Fayose was seen generally in the state as deft political move taken to forestall undue lobbying and pressure that might follow the sudden exit of Omoyeni.
Governor Fayose while announcing the appointment of Olujimi at the celebration of the annual Local Government Workers Day held at the Oluyemi Kayode stadium in Ado Ekiti said to the crowd:
"If you remember, I presented my deputy to you, Mr Omoyeni here when we were celebrating Teachers Day. But the God Almighty has promoted him as WEMA Bank Managing Director because it was said he is the only person that could move the bank forward.
" I am now seeking your permission to release him and by tomorrow the new deputy governor, Chief (Mrs) Abiodun Olujimi would be sworn in at 9.00 am."
This year's celebration of Local Government Workers Day marked amidst funfare brought a lot of goodies to the council workers.
Three of them adjudged as the best got the gift of a car- Datsun Sunny each as a reward for their hard work and dedication to duty.
The lucky winners drawn from each of the three senatorial district in the state were Mrs B. O. Popoola [Ekiti Central], Mr A.O. Falana (Ekiti South) and Mr Adeniyi Adebayo from Ekiti North.
Also, one of the Directors of Administration in the local government, Pastor Famubode was elevated to the status of a Permanent Secretary .
Governor Fayose told the workers that the government gesture was to appreciate their hard work and dedication to duty and to also challenge them to do more.
