After defrauding many unsuspecting persons of property and cash worth millions of naira, a syndicate in Rivers State specialising in hypnotising people and making away with their possessions has been smashed by the police.
Members of the syndicate, who have been operating from a shrine in Rumuogholu community in Obio/Akpo Local Government Area of the state, were picked up by men of the Special Area Police Division in Rumuokoro on Saturday.
The police gave the names of the suspects as: Ogbona Peter from Arochukwu, Christian Nwachukwu, (both of Abia State) and one Lucky from Edo State.
The suspects, who have been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Port Harcourt, were said to have been posing as commercial drivers and tricking passengers to their hideouts and dispossessing them of various items and cash.
The suspects were, however, reported to the police, who trailed them to the shrine where they arrested them.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the state, Mrs. Ireju Barasua, confirmed the incident, and said that the suspects would be prosecuted for conspiracy and robbery.
