THERE were strong indications on Sunday that the Federal Government might have concluded plans to forcefully evict the residents of the 1004 flats on Victoria Island, Lagos on Monday (today).

A source informed our correspondent that 400 soldiers and 300 riot policemen had been recruited to carry out the eviction, beginning from 2am.

The place was calm when our correspondent visited on Sunday.

Some children were seen playing football and basketball at the recreational areas of the place.

Some of the residents that spoke with our correspondent said they were aware of the Federal Government's plan.

They added that they were ready for the worst.

It was gathered that a candle light procession had been planned for 7pm to demonstrate the residents' resolve.

It was also learnt that some policemen, led by the Divisional Police Officer, the Bar Beach Station visited the place around 12 noon on Sunday for a chat with the leaders of the residents.

The leaders were said to have been prevailed upon by the other residents not to follow the policemen to their station.

According to one of the residents, " We are not afraid of their eviction team. Let them come with their soldiers and policemen. They will meet us here. Nobody is packing out of this area."
