The 25 year old who can`t be named for legal reasons will appear in court again next week.
The victim of the attack, who`s in her twenties, was raped in the early hours of December 27th last year as celebrations to mark St Stephens night drew to a close.
The violent rape took place in the Punches Cross area and the accused man was questioned as part of the Garda Investigation.
A file was sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions earlier this year and this week Gardai were directed to formally charge the man.
No application for bail has been made at this stage and the man is due to appear before the district court again on December 8th.
