Noose tightens on him as allocation is seized


THE November allocation of the Bayelsa State Government from the Federation Account has reportedly been seized by the Federal Government in a bid to frustrate the governor, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, who escaped from London where he was standing trial for money laundering charges to Nigeria, last Monday.

Also, the state government's cash office was allegedly burgled Friday night by unknown persons who made away with a large amount of cash.

The state's monthly allocation was seized some months earlier to whip the deputy governor, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, into line while the governor was in London but the money was later released after he (deputy governor) assured that he would handle things well.

Despite the setback, Alamieyeseigha was said to have directed that money be sourced from every available means to pay civil servants their November salary as from tomorrow to abort the plans of some persons to incite the civil servants agains him.

Since the governor returned, the powers that be have not relaxed their efforts to stop him from getting money from the state account. The state accountant general is in detention and the commisisoner for finance had been summoned by security agents.

The EFCC had also given directives to banks holding the state accounts not to release money to him without clearance from it. A government official told Sunday Vanguard that any bank that refuses to release the state's money to the govenor would be dealt with at the appropriate time. The thieves suspected to be thugs were said to have forced their into the state government's cash office after harassing the staff.
