The Government of Bayelsa State has raised alarm over a alleged plot by unnamed persons to destabilise the state and create the necessary condition for the declaration of a state of emergency.
This was disclosed yesterday by Acting Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Preye Wariowei, in a statement in Yenagoa.
The statement informed 'citizens of the state about the on-going plot to procure miscreants, thugs and never-do-wells from Port-Harcourt, in Rivers State, to unleash mayhem in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital."
According to Wariowei, 'These characters have been put inside buses belonging to Niger Delta Development Commission, (NDDC) ostensibly as protesters, but given N10,000 each to cause a maximum breach of the peace."
The statement further added that 'these are not Bayelsans, but a multi-ethnic rabble rousers sourced from the sewers of Port Harcourt."
He further stated that the objective of those behind these miscreants is to create the necessary condition for the declaration of a State of Emergency in Bayelsa, and pave a way for their own eventual ascension to power.
According to him: 'the short term plan is to capture the state's resources, in the form of its monthly federation account allocation, and deploy this as a massive war chest in their desperate quest for power."
Wariowei accused those he called co-conspirators of the destabilisation plot in Abuja to have fast-tracked the process by confiscating this month's allocation, and imprisoning the state Accountant-General in Abuja.
Wariowei on behalf of the state government appealed to all law abiding citizens to remain calm in the face of these many provocations.
