Presidency mum over governor's escape

SPECIAL Assistant to the President (Public Affairs), Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode, yesterday said that there is no firm official position on the mysterious return of the governor.

SPECIAL Assistant to the President (Public Affairs), Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode, yesterday said that there is no firm official position on the mysterious return of the governor.

Obviously being cautious on any comments, Mr. Fani-Kayode said: "Our position is that we will not comment until we get clear instruction from President Olusegun Obasanjo (who is in Sokoto for a three-day state visit). As regards to how Alamieyeseigha got into Nigeria, that is best put to him and the British High Commission because they were the ones that arrested him, charged him and were prosecuting him."

He added: "We will not comment until all the facts are made available. It is not right for me to pre-empt the President. He will tell us what to do or say."

On why the governor was not arrested in the Bayelsa State capital, Yenagoa on his arrival, Mr. Fani-Kayode, alluding to the immunity from prosecution and arrest while in office stated, "we have to operate within the law."
