Controversy trailed his past. He was a Lagos socialite. But today, he's a new person.
His recent visit to his home showed all the difference. He did not come in the endless fleet of cars for which he was known in the past, but with a procession of pastors, clergymen and prophets. His mission was to cleanse the land of all abominable acts. The community, whose peace he once broke with the blaring of his siren, is the same place he has driven in quietly, almost unnoticed. He goes about gently and only those who came close noticed that he was around, until that day that the programme for the sanitization of his land from evil kicked off. At the Kingdom Church hall in Umudiawa, many stared at him and said to themselves, is this still the Eze Ofoegbu that we used to know? But they are far away from the truth because this is not the same Eze. For the Bible says that if a man be in Christ, he is a new creature.
And when he mounted the pulpit to dish out the word of God, it dawned on them that this is not the same man they use to know. He has truly become a new creature. For this reason many responded positively to his message. "If Ofoegbu can serve God, then I must submit myself to God willingly," they said and in one accord. He preached the good news to those who have not heard. His message was that all his subjects should do away with everything that does not reflect the glory of God.
And indeed, many ocultic people, native doctors and evil men and women abandoned their trades for Christ. He threw the gospel at them in the like manner that he used to throw money in the past, and his people rushed for the good news.
What does he intend to achieve through this programme? "The intention is to bring salvation to my people and we have succeeded in doing that. We all came together in one accord. All my cabinet members have accepted Christ.
"I thank God for the opportunity He gave me to know Him. He made me a king by his grace. And to rule a community that is behind in the things of God must be done by the power of God. We have been living in this community for so many years without visible development.
"As the king, I don't want my people to follow any other God except the most High God who giveth kings the wisdom with which to rule his people. He gave His wisdom to the Jewish kings who relied on Him. And I have seen that for me to lead my people aright, I will need His wisdom. That is why I have embracedHim. And that is exactly what you are witnessing here today. I want my people to experience that grace which has made me what I am today. We have not had any proper development in this community since we have been serving other gods. For example, to build one house in my community took me more than 10 years to complete due to the negative spiritual powers which pull people down.
"We are getting by on a gradual process. Most of these people you see were native doctors and idols worshippers few days ago but today they are children of the most High God. They have renounced all their evil practices. That is part of the good news we are taking about. We have resolved not to be pouring libations or performing sacrifices but praying to God ceaselessly.
"All the activities which glorify Satan have been abolished. Even if you wear anything that exposes your body to the point of causing another person to sin, it is not of God. That is why we preach against bad dressing.
"Holiness is the word. Since our God is a holy God, we must be holy to be able to get to Him."
