The Bayelsa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has slammed a one-month suspension on the state governor, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha.
Chief Alamieyeseigha is currently facing a three count charge in a London court over alleged money laundering.
The suspension of the embattled governor is contained in a communiquéé issued at the end of the State Working Committee meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party held yesterday at the party secretariat at Yenezue Gene, Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.
The communiquéé signed by the state PDP chairman, Fred Agbedi said the SWC having deliberated exhaustively on the several criminal allegations of embezzlement, fraud and corruption levelled against the governor by the relevant security agencies in the country and the grave charges of money laundering preferred against him by the Metropolitan Police resolved that the governor be suspended from the party for one month and the matter be referred to the appropriate disciplinary committee empowered by the constitution to hear and determine his case and give further requisite disciplinary measures.
According to the communiquéé, 'the committee noted the unpardonable failure of His Excellency, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, to formally inform the party in Bayelsa State of his prolonged absence from both his party and official duties as an elected officer of the party".
The communiquéé added, 'the committee came to the conclusion that the various acts of His Excellency as highlighted above are not only embarrassing but amount to gross misconduct and have brought the party into shame and disrepute."
It therefore resolved that in exercise of its powers under Article 16(B)(b) of the constitution of the Peoples Democratic Party, the governor of Bayelsa State Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha be and is hereby suspended from the Peoples Democratic Party for a period of one month.
The SWC also resolved that the conduct of His Excellency, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, Governor of Bayelsa State, be referred to the appropriate disciplinary committee, which has the power under the party constitution to hear and determine his case and give further requisite disciplinary measures.
"It was further resolved that the decision of the State Working Committee be promptly communicated to the national secretary of the party".
