In recognition of her dogged fight against fake drugs and substandard regulated products, the Director-General of National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Dora Akunyili has been described as a "shinning model and international star" worthy of emulation by men and women in public service.

Visiting French Foreign Trade Minister, Mrs. Christine Lagarde who made the remark during her courtesy visit to the NAFDAC Corporate Headquarters in Abuja, praised Akunyili for her and courage in daring to wage a vigorous battle against fake Drug Barons even in the face of threats to her life.
Mrs. Lagarde said she was delighted to learn that NAFDAC has created an enabling environment for the importation of more than 88 French pharmaceutical and food products in the country.
The Minister congratulated the NAFDAC Boss for "achieving so much within a short period of time" and pledged the support and co-operation of her home government for the Agency.
She said "congratulations for doing what you are doing. You are an International star and a shinning model. One of the main purpose of my visit, apart from this courtesy visit, is concerning the multilateral discussions that we will be having in Hong Kong, because France is very concerned about the access to medicine for developing countries especially those that are suffering from AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria".
