Rivers State stood still yesterday as people trooped out on the streets to welcome the remains of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) chieftain, Dr Marshall Harry, assassinated early this month by unknown persons.

The remains of the former ANPP chieftain arrived the Port Harcourt International Airport at about 6 p.m. amidst tight security via the Sosoliso Airline.

Among those who were at the airport to receive the body of the late politician were his wife and children.

THISDAY gathered that only the household members of late Harry and few stalwarts of the ANPP were allowed on the tarmac to receive the remains of the late politician.

Others who were also around at the airport to receive the corpse were the deputy gubernatorial candidate of ANPP in Rivers State, Mr Palibo Harry.

It was gathered that those who thronged the airport were thoroughly searched by a team of anti-riot policemen and airport securitymen who were stationed at strategic positions.

The corpse of late Harry was said to have immediately been taken away to an unknown destination in Port Harcourt under a very tight security.

Disappointed political heavyweights in the state including the ANPP governorship candidate, Chief Sergeant Awuse and governorship candidates of other political parties did not show up at the airport to receive the corpse of late Harry.

All the governorship candidates of the various political parties were said to have been at different locations in the state campaigning for support towards next month's polls.

The deputy governorship candidate of ANPP who incidentally was a cousin to the late politician, however warned ANPP loyalists against any form of protest as the corpse of Marshall arrives the state.

Palibo Harry and the vice chairman of the party in the state, Mr Sunny Dike reminded the youths who came to the airport that no amount of protest could restore the life of Harry.

"We all know the volatile nature of the matter and there is need for all of us to conduct ourselves well to avoid any incident," he told the youth. As at the time of filing this report, there was no ugly incident in the state over the arrival of the assassinated ANPP chieftain.
