Operatives of the State Security Service on Wednesday arrested the Kwara State Chairman of the Action Alliance, Chief Iyiola Oyedepo, for allegedly publishing and circulating a subversive literature.
Operatives of the State Security Service on Wednesday arrested the Kwara State Chairman of the Action Alliance, Chief Iyiola Oyedepo, for allegedly publishing and circulating a subversive literature.
But the Director of the SSS denied that his men arrested Oyeyipo.
He said, 'That is not true. It is not our men."
It was gathered that the SSS received a petition alleging that Oyedepo was planning to overthrow the state government.
In addition, Oyedepo was also alleged to have stockpiled his house with arms, according to the petition by the state government.
It was gathered that Oyedepo, who was a former Chief Whip of the state House of Assembly was arrested by four men of the security agency at the state secretariat of the AA around 11am on Wednesday and whisked away in an unmarked vehicle to their office for interrogation.
An eyewitness told our correspondent that after the office interrogation, Oyeyipo was led to his residence where a thorough search, which lasted for about an hour was conducted.
Not satisfied, the SSS officials was also alleged to have led Oyedepo to his law chambers located at the Kwara Stadium Shopping Complex along Ibrahim Taiwo Road Ilorin for another round of search.
In the leaflet introducing the offending publication entitled 'Perspectives on Zimbabwean farmers," the former lawmaker had described the agricultural project of the state government as 'a great rip-off".
The offending part of the leaflet, according to a source at the SSS is where Oyedepo, describes the book as 'an eye opener which opens the eyes of Nigerians, particularly the people of Kwara state to the fraud which the Zimbabwean farmers project in Kwara state represents."
The source said the leaflet could incite the public against the government.
According to another source, Oyeyipo that came on his own to the office of the of the SSS to see the director and left as soon as he was through with the director.
The source, who said he could not give reasons for his visit said Oyeyipo left immediately.
As at the time of filing this report, one Mrs, Oladimeji, who claimed to be Oyedepo's sister said they were still at the SSS office.
