Bellview: Baale denies demanding N2m from FG


VILLAGE head of Lisa, Ifo local government area of Ogun State, Chief Sadiku Odugbeni, has denied media reports that he demanded N2 million from the Minister of Aviation and relevant agencies to ward off ghosts of the 117 persons who perished in the October 22, Bellview flight 210 which crashed in the village.

Reports last week, had it that the village head had, at a Press conference, demanded N2 million to perform spiritual cleansing of the village which he said, was necessary to ward off the ghosts of victims of the crash.

But elders of Lisa and seven surrounding communities, addressing the press yesterday, said the Baale never made the demand.

A statement signed by Chief J.O. Akinyele on behalf of the communities said, it was "unfortunate if this statement or request was made," adding that "on contacting the Baale of Lisa, he denied making this statement."

The statement, which expressed reservations on the allegation that some villagers engaged in looting at the site of the crash, noted that "if it is true, we consider it very ``abnormal for anybody to loot in such terrible tragedy, while urging the police to "speed up investigation and action to unravel the truth."

The statement also stressed that access to farmland and drinking water, in the area has not been easy as excavation and fumigation is on-going, adding that, "the villagers of Alapandi, Alaagba and Lisa, very near to each other, has been finding the situation impossible."
