2 Coca cola robbers arrested, others escape with bullet wounds


Two of the four-man robbery gang who specialize in operating with motor-cycles in the commercial city of Onitsha, Anambra State and its environs have been tracked down by an anti-robbery squad attached to Onitsha police area command, while two others escaped with bullet wounds.

The suspects whose names police refused to disclose for the purpose of arresting the fleeing gangsters, according a reliable source, had on Wednesday, October 19, at Okpoko Layout, off Atani Road, double-crossed a Coca-cola van with motorcycles and allegedly relieved the company driver and sales staff of unspecified sums of money belonging to the company.


The money, according to the source, was part of the proceeds just generated from coca-cola distributors during the process of sales and supplies of Coca-cola products within the commercial city.
But lack ran out on them when on a tip-off, the police team intercepted and overpowered the gang and arrested two of them, while two others escaped with bullet wounds, leaving traces of blood to a nearby bush.
The police Area Commander for Onitsha, Mr. Dennis Anyagafu who confirmed the incident while parading the suspects before the press, said N61,000, one chef revolver gun with six rounds of live ammunitions and one AK 47 magazine with some rounds of live ammunitions were recovered from the two robbers.

Anyagafu who restated his vow that no robber or robbers can operate in Onitsha axis and go scot-free, said efforts are underway by the police to track down the fleeing ones.

He therefore, appealed to good citizens from Odekpe, Okoti, Atani and Okpoko areas to alert the police of any one with bullets wounds, adding that doctors, nurses, traditional medical practitioners and all those who are stakeholders in healthcare should not treat those with such bullet wounds without police clearance.
