Police raid Gani Adams' house

In continuation of onslaught on leaders of Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), men of the Lagos Police Command, sunday raided the home of the organisation's National Coordinator, Otunba Gani Adams.

In continuation of onslaught on leaders of Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), men of the Lagos Police Command, sunday raided the home of the organisation's National Coordinator, Otunba Gani Adams.

The policemen, from the State Central Investigation Department (SCID) Panti, stormed Adams house at Sabo town in Amuwo Odofin Local Government at about 3.00am and forced all the rooms open. Cabinets and several portions of the house were vandalised by the rampaging security- men.

The Officer-in-Charge of SCID, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DSP), Olayinka Balogun, confirmed the raid on Adams' home and said that it was carried out by his men.

According to Balogun: "We are cracking down on those who carried out the Iyana-Ipaja mayhem and those responsible for the killing of a police officer.
"We are looking for guns and ammunition. In the latest operation, we recovered ammunition, charms and documents pertaining to OPC," he said.

According to eyewitness account, the gun-totting policemen numbering over 40 broke in through the main gate, the door to the house and the rooms were all vandalised in the process of gaining entry.
When Daily Sun visited the scene, Adams' wife provision store in front of the house was left ajar and empty.

A young girl, Mosun, who witnessed the operation from hiding said: "They forced the provision store open with the butt of their guns and boots.
"They carried away the wines tins of milk, Bournvita, Milo and several other provisions, including Eva water bottles," Adams personal room and study were turned upside down. No room was spared in the operation that lasted till dawn.

The Baale of Sabo, Chief Sakiru Idris, Adams' cousin, Bode Akeju and his wife's driver, Taiwo Sanni, were all arrested and taken away by the policemen.

As at press time, nobody could ascertain the value of properties and personal effects of the OPC leader carted away.
Segun Akanni, an OPC stalwart, who spoke on the incident, condemned the police action, describing it as barbaric and uncalled for.

According to Akanni: "Both Dr Fasehun and Otunba Adams honoured police invitation before they were arrested and detained. So why should they now raid their residence in the night. If they are looking for criminals, they know where to look for them. In fact, what has happened today is a serious crime against humanity. There are young girls, women and children in the house. Imagine, Adams' father who is over 80 years o ld was assaulted during the raid."

"Look at the provision stores, are they also looking for criminals in that place and the criminals turned to wines and other provisions which they carried away. Honestly, I believe our police need to be schooled in the act of discipline when carrying out their duties," he said.
