Born-again traditional ruler dethroned in Ekiti

ADO-EKITI - A traditional ruler in Ekiti State, has been deposed by his subjects for allegedly abandoning the performance of traditional rites in his kingdom.

The traditional ruler in Gbonyin local government area of the state and installed about 14 years ago was said to have accepted Christian faith a couple of years ago, thereby abandoning his traditional roles in the palace.

His subjects were said to have fallen apart with the traditional ruler when no fewer than five university professors died in quick succession in the last couple of months.

The monarch whose installation sparked-off controversy in his domain, as he was said to have been imposed on his subjects by some ‘powerful' indigenes of the town, was finally kicked out of the palace by the aggrieved indigenes of the town.

Vanguard reliably gathered that the traditional ruler was summoned to a meeting last weekend where he was asked to defend why he should not be removed as the ruler of the town.

Vanguard further gathered that while the traditional ruler was making effort to defend himself, some of his subjects allegedly pounced on him and subjected him to humiliation.

He was said to have been de-robbed of his official paraphemalia of office and subsequently chased out of the town naked.

Shortly after he was chased out of the town, traditional trees in strategic shrines in the town were cut, a move that symbolished his demise.

The traditional ruler is said to be taking refuge with his fellow traditional ruler in a neighbouring town.
